After making brunch reservations at our favorite (and first) place, I told her we should bring our son who happens to be a 5 pound yorkie. This set the wheels in motion. The night before brunch on Saturday, I dropped several suggestions about going to the dog park we love taking him to on the weekends since we’re already going to be in the area for brunch. She thought that was a great idea, which made the planning phase now complete. Once we get to the park in the morning, we walk around for a little while and finally settle on a bench while our little guy continues running around.
I realize this is actually about to happen and the nerves hit me like a freight train. A dog comes over, distracting me, and tries jumping up but gets dirt all over my shorts in the process. Thinking nothing of it, Cassie begins to try wiping them clean but I refuse to move my arm which is covering the box in my pocket. She stops, looks at me in confusion, and then realizes I’m sweating a little more than I probably should. I shrug it off, but realize my cover is about to get blown if I don’t get the wheels in motion. After I stand up and take a deep breath, I take a knee and pull out the box. She was in disbelief and awe as I open the box. I will never forget that face. She LOVES the ring!
Putting it on her hand and seeing it sparkle in the sunlight gave me chills as well. It couldn’t have been better. So after leaving the dog park, she can’t wait to tell everyone. Her parents, my parents, friends, etc. She wants to let everyone know once we get seated at brunch. As we arrive and walk to the patio to our table, she’s greeted by both families and she then realizes I had this entire thing planned out from start to finish. Best day of our lives.
