The week leading up to the proposal, I had told Leslie that we were going to a work dinner at Brennan’s on Saturday and that all of the spouses and girlfriends of our team were invited. Being the planner that Leslie is, I knew she would ask me all sorts of questions and brought my co-workers in on the proposal just in case. Since we had been out of town so much, Leslie asked if the dinner was an optional, to which I answered no. Leslie (a Texas A&M Aggie) even tried to get me (a Kansas Jayhawk) to not have to go to the dinner with the excuse of “KU is playing Kentucky in basketball that Saturday!” Obviously, that didn’t work. Little did she know what was coming…
Leslie seemed unaware when I picked her up on the evening of January 28th, and when we arrived at Brennan’s, the hostess told us that our table wasn’t ready. She then took us to the courtyard to “enjoy some drinks while the table was being prepared.” The Brennan’s courtyard is a beautiful setting and was decorated with candles all over to make it even more romantic. Once outside in the courtyard, I had Leslie read a letter I had written to her and then then got down on one knee and and proposed. Against all odds she said yes and I became the happiest man in the world! Afterwards we enjoyed time with each other and ate an incredible dinner at Brennan’s. The last surprise for the evening was a celebratory cake and champagne engagement party at Leslie’s house with our families and closest friends. It was the happiest night of our lives and we feel so blessed!
