Common styles include three of the same shape with the center stone larger than the side stones however there are numerous side stone shapes. There is no real rule for pairing side stone shapes with center stones other than preference.

The side stones can be used in two different fashions. One way is for the side stones to simply compliment the center stone with their smaller side stones. This style provides a greater size difference which can help give the illusion of a larger center stone. Side stones can also flatter the center stone by nearly matching the size of the center stone for more of an accompanied appearance.
