Enter the Custom Jewelry Jedi May 30, 2017 By Uptown Diamond We are joined by Alberto Chavez, Uptown Diamond’s Master CAD Designer and Custom Jewelry Jedi. What does CAD mean? CAD (computer-aided design) software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. CAD software can be used to create three-dimensional (3-D) models. Alberto Chavez, Master Jeweler and Design Artist Alberto is the “Jedi” of custom jewelry design at Uptown Diamond. He is involved with the custom design process from the client’s first visit until the last. Our diamond experts will bring Alberto in to meet the client and discuss their design ideas. Some clients bring in photos or sketches of what their dream ring might look like and others look to the Uptown Diamond team for ideas and guidance. Stones, metals and overall design will be discussed at this first meeting. It’s important to note that if you purchase your diamond ring from a private jeweler such as Uptown Diamond, you can expect to save anywhere from 30-50% compared to traditional retail. Once a custom design has been agreed upon in a matter of minutes a quote will be presented. The client quote is based on the size, shape and weight of the diamond chosen, and the number of stones to be set in the ring. The grams of Platinum, Gold or Silver needed are taken into account along with any other unique feature the ring may garner. Now it’s time for the Master CAD Designer (Jedi) to create the CAD drawing using a software matrix that will result in a 3D rendering. At this point, there may be some back and forth with the client and some changes to the design may occur. Once the client approves the 3D rendering it’s headed to the 3D printer where a one-of-a-kind custom jewelry design will “grow!” What we mean by the term “grow” is that layers of material are formed under computer control to create the physical piece. CAD Rendering of Custom Jewelry Through consultation they honed in on Genevieve’s lifelong love of all things Star Wars. Uptown’s Grayland Noah collaborated with Paul to craft a ring bearing a distinct R2-D2 theme. “The couple will tell the story of this ring forever,” said jeweler Grayland Noah. “We wanted to ensure that the ring reflected both his love for her and her love for Star Wars.” This is a great example of the custom work Uptown Diamond is known for. The Uptown Diamond custom jewelry process is a very detailed process, but the goal is simple. Create a piece of jewelry that the client will love and cherish for years to come. One that they had a hand in designing and will wear with pride!
